Applications

Optical transceiver for px20+ Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Networks (EPON) ONU side

General

The EPON ONU SFP Transceiver module is specifically designed for Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) transmission over distances of up to 20 kilometers. The module incorporates state-of-the-art technology to ensure reliable and efficient data transmission in EPON networks.

Transmitter Section

The transmitter section features a 1310nm FP (Fabricated Pinhole) laser, optimized for burst-mode operation. An integrated burst-mode laser driver is employed, which is designed to minimize burst enable/disable delay time. This ensures rapid and responsive transmission of data packets, crucial for efficient EPON communication.

Furthermore, the laser driver incorporates digital APC (Automatic Power Control) and temperature compensation circuitry. These mechanisms work together to maintain a constant launch optical power and extinction ratio across varying temperatures and over time. This ensures consistent performance and reliability, even under challenging environmental conditions.

Receiver Section

The receiver section utilizes an integrated 1490nm InGaAs (Indium Gallium Arsenide) Pin photodiode and preamplifier. This combination provides high sensitivity and low noise, enabling accurate detection of incoming optical signals. The receiver also features a signal-detected status indicator (active high), which provides a convenient means to monitor the presence of an incoming signal.

WDM Coupler

An integrated WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) coupler is employed to efficiently separate the 1490nm input light (for the receiver) and the 1310nm output light (for the transmitter). This allows for simultaneous transmission and reception of signals over a single fiber, greatly simplifying network architecture and reducing costs.

In summary, the EPON ONU SFP Transceiver module offers a comprehensive solution for Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network applications, with optimized transmitter and receiver performance, integrated WDM coupler, and advanced control circuitry to ensure reliable and efficient data transmission over long distances.
